Itinerary for the 3 days desert tour from Fes To Marrakech

Day 1: Fes » Azrou (Cedar forest) » Midelt » Erfoud » Merzouga Sahara [467 Km]

We begin our adventure in Fes, leaving the city behind at 8:00 a.m. in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. Our first stop is Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” due to its European-style buildings and cool climate.

Then we head to Azrou Cedar Forest, home to the famous Barbary macaque monkeys. You’ll get a chance to see these friendly creatures in their natural habitat, surrounded by beautiful cedar trees.

As we continue, we cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, with their green hills and scenic valleys. A lunch stop in Midelt, a quiet town known for apples and carpets, offers a chance to relax.

Next, we drive through the Ziz Valley, full of tall palm trees and traditional villages, until we reach Erfoud, a city famous for fossils. You might want to stop at a local fossil workshop to learn about ancient sea life found in the area.

By sunset, we arrive at Merzouga, where your desert adventure begins. Here, you’ll ride a camel into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi as the sun dips below the horizon. After a peaceful ride, you’ll reach your desert camp, where a hearty dinner is served under the stars, followed by Berber music around the campfire. Spend the night in a comfortable private tent, enjoying the silence and beauty of the Sahara.

Day 2: Erg Chabbi»Rissani»Gorges of Todra»Valleys Of Dadas:

Start your day early to watch the sunrise over the dunes, a moment of pure magic. After breakfast and a shower at the camp or nearby hotel, we return to Merzouga by camel.

We then head to Rissani, once an important trading center for the caravans coming from the Sahara. You’ll visit its lively local souk, especially vibrant on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, when the traditional market is in full swing. You can shop for local spices, crafts, Berber shoes, and more.

Driving on, we reach the dramatic Todra Gorges, a natural wonder with cliffs up to 300 meters high. Walk along the cool river in the canyon and take stunning photos between the tall red rocks.

In the afternoon, we continue to the Dades Valley, also known as the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. Along the way, we pass by traditional mud-brick villages and palm groves, and stop at the famous Monkey Fingers rock formation. Dinner and overnight stay in a comfortable guesthouse or riad in Dades Gorges, surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery.

Day 3: Merzouga » N'kob » Agdz » High Atlas Mountains » Marrakech

After breakfast, we begin our journey towards Marrakech. The road takes us through the Valley of Roses, known for its rosewater products and beautiful spring festivals.

Next, we arrive in Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of Africa. Here, we’ll stop at the Atlas Film Studios, where movies like Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Mummy were filmed. You’ll also see Kasbah Taourirt, an old palace filled with traditional Moroccan architecture.

From here, we continue to the most famous kasbah in Morocco, Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This fortified village, built of earth and straw, looks like a movie set and in fact, has been featured in many films. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding desert.

After lunch in a local restaurant, we begin our final drive through the High Atlas Mountains, climbing up to the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 meters). Along the way, you’ll enjoy fantastic views and stop for pictures at scenic spots.

We arrive in Marrakech by evening, where your driver will drop you off at your hotel or riad, marking the end of this beautiful 3-day Morocco desert tour from Fes to Marrakech.

Amazing 3-day trip Fes to Marrakech

My girlfriend and I did the 3-day tour from Fes to Marrakech with Said, and it was a fantastic experience. Ali is an excellent driver, and this was particularly important for my girlfriend, who is often car sick. Ali is very keen to explain to you the surroundings and give you freedom and ideas to adapt your trip as you like. The tour is very well organised with a multitude of fantastic activities to both relax and enjoy your holidays and understand the culture of this beautiful and fascinating country. The tour in the desert is a unique experience which I recommend everyone doing at least once in a lifetime. Accommodation and dinner for the two nights were well above my expectations: everything was super clean, the staff very kind and welcoming, and the meals in the desert were of superb quality.
